Picking up after The Way of Water, the Sully family is still reeling from tragedy and trying to hold together while Pandora edges toward wider war. Their journey brings them into contact with Na’vi clans unlike any we’ve seen before.

These include the wind-riding Windtraders and the Mangkwan, or “Ash People,” a volcanic-region tribe hardened by catastrophe and led by the ruthless Varang. Unlike the forest and reef clans, the Ash People have turned their backs on Eywa, and their alliance with old enemies makes them a dangerous new force.

With Colonel Quaritch still hunting Jake and loyalties being tested inside and outside the family, the film pushes the saga into darker territory. It asks what happens when the Na’vi themselves aren’t united, and it delivers the series’ trademark visual spectacle on an even bigger scale.
