In partnership with
Young Josh Hartnett & Jordana Brewster before Fast & Furious
Herrington High in small-town Ohio is a typical school of jocks, cheerleaders, outcasts and burnt-out teachers.
Then nerdy photographer Casey (Elijah Wood) finds a strange creature on the football field and notices the faculty acting very oddly.
Soon the teachers and students around him are changing, becoming cold, calm and disturbingly unified.
Casey teams up with an unlikely crew: the school’s drug-dealing rebel genius, the head cheerleader, the goth outsider, the new girl and the star quarterback.
Together they realise an alien invasion is spreading from the staff room outward. With no adults left to trust and no way of telling who’s still human, they have to find a way to fight back. It’s a sharp, funny, scary mix of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Breakfast Club.
Released in 1998, it was written by Kevin Williamson, riding high after Scream, and directed by Robert Rodriguez.
It has become a cult favourite and a great Halloween-season watch. It’s also a fun spot-the-star movie: young Josh Hartnett, Jordana Brewster before Fast & Furious, Usher, Jon Stewart as a science teacher, and Robert Patrick of Terminator 2 as the football coach.
